Definitions
An Asylum seeker is someone who flees their country and arrives in another making themselves known to the authorities and exercising their legal right to apply for sanctuary.

A Refugee is someone who has made a successful claim for asylum and is told that they are allowed to stay.

Refused Asylum seeker is someone who has not proved their case for asylum and has been told that they can not stay.

An Illegal Immigrant is someone who arrives in the country and does not make themselves known to the authorities.

An Economic Migrant is a person from a non-EU state who might have legal (a work permit) or illegal status.

An European Migrant is a member of a European Union state who has the right to exercise their rights in any other member state as a qualified person (e.g. worker/student/self-supporting).
